Next Saturday, June 19, we commemorate “Juneteenth,” the anniversary of the proclamation of freedom from slavery when Union troops announced freedom to slaves in Galveston, TX, on June 19, 1865, after the Civil War had already ended. Let us pray and work for the end of all slavery in our nation and in the world (e.g. human trafficking) and further pray and work for the dismantling of racism in our society. / El próximo sábado, el 19 de junio, conmemoramos el “Juneteenth,” que es el aniversario de la proclamación de libertad a los esclavos en Galveston, Texas, el 19 de junio 1865, por medio de las tropas de la Unión de los EE UU, después de que ya se acabó la Guerra Civil. Pidamos a Dios y luchemos por el fin de cualquier esclavitud en nuestros países (ej. trata de personas) y aún más por el fin de racismo en nuestra sociedad.
At church, we continue with social distancing at three feet, and those who are fully vaccinated are not required to wear facemasks. Those who are not fully vaccinated or who are not vaccinated at all, including children and youth, are recommended to wear facemasks for your protection and the protection of your family. The dispensation from the obligation to attend Sunday Mass and Mass on Holy Days of Obligation ended last weekend. This Sunday, June 13th, members of the Latino community are holding a fundraiser at Julia Cortes’ home (2307 Grenada Blvd.) – a tamale sale! – to help defray hospital expenses for our brother parishioner, Ernesto Zúñiga, who recently underwent surgery. Tamales will be $12.00 per dozen and consist of three choices – pork, chicken or cheese with peppers. It will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, June 13th. Thank you for your support! / Este domingo, el 13 de junio, unos miembros de nuestra comunidad parroquial conducirán a un evento de recaudar fondos a beneficio de nuestro hermano, Ernesto Zúñiga, quien recientemente tuvo cirugía. Este evento es para ayudarlo con sus varios gastos. Se venden los tamales por $12.00 por cada docena y hay tres opciones – puerco, pollo o queso con rajas. Next Sunday, June 20, 2021, members of St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Manitowoc, WI will be here to promote this year’s Vacation Bible School (VBS), June 21-24, 2021. They will also be distributing a traditional Wisconsin bratwurst lunch after the two Sunday Masses – it will be carry-out. Thanks to their generosity, the VBS is a free program – including a light breakfast and a lunch each day – for pre-school children (4-5 years old) and grade school children, ages 6 – 11 years. If you are interested in your children participating, please bring the filled registration form to the parish office ASAP. Due to the pandemic, registration is limited – 50 children total! Thank you! / El próximo domingo, el 20 de junio 2021, miembros de la parroquia san Francisco de Asís en Manitowoc, Wisconsin estarán aquí a promover la Escuela bíblica de vacaciones (EBV) que se llevará a cabo el lunes hasta el jueves, el 21 hasta el 24 de junio 2021 a la escuela de san Francisco. También, al final de las dos misas del domingo, van a distribuir almeruzos típicos de Wisconsin – las salchichas “bratwurst” – para llevar. Acerca del EBV, es para los niños de kinder, que tienen 4 y 5 años, y para los muchachos de los 6 hasta 11 años. Se incluirá un desayuno ligero y un almuerzo – ¡todo gratuito! Por causa de la pandemia se limita el número de los participantes a los 50 muchachos en total. ¡Gracias!
