We learned this past week that Mr. Sam (“Poppa Sam”) Leach, 89 years old, fell asleep in the Lord on Wednesday, 16 December. We are so very sad about his loss and pray for him and his family and friends who grieve his passing. He was one of the founding pillars of this parish, having become a Catholic at age 19 in 1952. We pray for his eternal life, for consolation for his family and friends and that he rejoices in the glory of God with all the Angels and Saints. What a glorious Christmas present for Poppa Sam! / Eneramos esta semana pasada, que el Sr. Sam (“Papa Sam”) Leach, que tenía 89 años, falleció el miércoles, el 16 de diciembre. El fue uno de los pilares fundadores de nuestra parroquia y se convirtió a catolicismo cuando tenía 19 años en 1952. Le pedimos a Dios que descanse en la paz de Cristo y que regocija en la gloria de Dios con sus ángeles y santos. ¡Qué bendita Navidad para Papa Leach!
A reminder about our Christmas Masses: there will be two Masses on Christmas Eve, 24 December, in English, one at 4 p.m. and the other at 10 p.m. We are blessed to once again have Dr. Lemondra Hamilton serve as musician for both of these Masses. Due to the pandemic, there will be no Christmas caroling before either Mass, but Dr. Hamilton will play Christmas songs before each. We will also have a parish Mass in English on Christmas Day, Friday, 25 December, at 11 a.m. (Dr. Hamilton will not be playing at that Mass) / Un recordatorio acerca de las misas navideñas en español – se llevarán a cabo la Noche Buena, el jueves, el 24 de diciembre, a las 6 p.m. y a las 8 p.m.
Let us remember in prayer our parishioners and their family members who are struggling with COVID-19 and other illnesses, and other members of the Greenwood community and Leflore County who also struggle with illnesses, infirmities, economic hardships and separation from loved ones.
